Mehmet M. Dalkilic, Ph.D. is an associate professor of Computer Science and adjunct of Statistics. Dr. Dalkilic was the first full-time faculty in the Luddy School of Informatics, designing and implementing the introductory class I101 that now has around 800 students per semester. He created the graduate computational program and its introductory class I519 taken by students across the university. He recently created a new introductory computer science class C200 to the complement the existing one. C200 targets underrepresented groups. The class has grown from 22 students the first semester to a total of 320 students Fall 2020. The class teaches programming by focusing on socially relevant problems as well as problems in other disciplines. The class environment is meant to foster community. His current work is in data science allowing him to address a wide range of interests: astronomy, geology, climate change, public transportation, etc. He also is a visiting research faculty in the Electro-Optics Division, Crane (NSWC). He also works with NSIN on developing rational drones.
